The Auction of Fate

You bid to save your sister—but the auctioneer is your fated mate.

Your sister's life hangs on a cure only a reclusive tycoon can provide, so you enter his infamous charity auction—a gauntlet of wealth and wit where the highest bidder doesn't win the prize; they win him. But as you outmaneuver rivals and dodge traps, you discover the ritual binding you to him is older than money, and the real price may be your freedom. In a game where every move is watched, you must choose: save the one you love, or surrender to a destiny that could consume you both. A shadowy competition, a fated connection, and a love that defies all reason.

The story begins

The gavel in the auctioneer’s hand hovered, a polished obsidian beetle about to strike. You had one second to read the card on the velvet table: The Mirror of Echoes. One truth, spoken aloud, becomes a blade. Your sister’s face, pale as bone, flickered in your mind—the oxygen tank hissing beside her hospital bed. You’d sold your father’s watch for the entry fee.

“Contestant Seven,” Julian Ashworth’s voice cut through the murmuring crowd, low and unnervingly calm. He stood at the far end of the hall, a silhouette against the floor-to-ceiling windows, the estate’s manicured darkness bleeding into midnight behind him. “Step forward.”

The air thickened. A scent of cedar and cold rain clung to him, and beneath your ribs, something tugged—a thread you hadn’t known was knotted there. His eyes, silver as mercury, held yours a beat too long. Do you feel it too? The thought surfaced uninvited, and you crushed it.

“The challenge is simple,” he said, a ghost of a smile playing at his lips. “Tell the mirror what you truly want. It will decide if you’re worthy.”

The mirror was a slab of black glass, taller than a man, waiting at the center of the hall. Your reflection stared back, hollow-eyed and desperate.

What happens next is up to you.
