The Cursed Artifact

Mature

You authenticate relics for the rich, but this one comes with a haunting and a billionaire who knows more than he lets on.

You are the world's top paranormal artifact appraiser, renowned for separating genuine curses from clever fakes. When the enigmatic billionaire Julian Blackwood hires you to authenticate a relic in his private museum, the job turns deadly as the artifact awakens a vengeful spirit. Trapped in a house full of secrets, you must trust the arrogant tycoon—who may have staged the entire disaster—to survive the night and uncover the truth.

The story begins

The rain had been falling for hours, a steady gray curtain that turned the gravel drive into a slick black ribbon. You'd been standing in the grand foyer of Blackwood Manor for exactly four minutes when you realized the silence was wrong—too deep, too watchful, as if the house itself was holding its breath.

Julian Blackwood watched you from the archway, his tailored suit immaculate despite the storm, his smile a calculated thing that never quite reached his eyes. "The relic is in the east wing," he said, voice low and smooth as aged whiskey. "I had it moved to the study. More... intimate setting for a first meeting."

You'd heard the rumors about him—the collector who bought history and buried it. But you'd also heard about the artifact: a bronze mirror said to hold the soul of a woman wronged by the Blackwood line three centuries ago. Your fingers itched to touch it, to read its truth.

"Show me," you said.

He led you through corridors lined with glass cases, each holding something dark: a child's doll with painted eyes, a rusted iron key, a wedding ring fused to bone. The study waited at the end, lit by a single lamp, and there it sat on a velvet stand—the mirror, its surface black as oil.

"Go on," Julian murmured. "Touch it."

Your hand reached out, and the mirror rippled.

What happens next is up to you.
