The Last Falconer

You are the last falconer in the world, and the man who mocked your art now needs you to save his legacy.

When a rival tycoon poisons the peregrine falcons that guard his estates and sets his holdings ablaze, the billionaire who once dismissed your ancient craft must swallow his pride and beg for your help. As the flames die down, you discover a deeper conspiracy that threatens not only his empire but the last wild places you swore to protect. Now you must decide: save his flock beside him, or let it all burn—and take a piece of his soul with it.

The story begins

The acrid bite of smoke still clung to your lungs as you crouched in the ash. The mews—your mews, your charge—were nothing but charred ribs of timber and the faint, sickening smell of burnt feathers. You ran a gloved hand over a blackened perch, the wood crumbling beneath your fingers. Seven birds. Seven lives, gone in a single, deliberate night.

Behind you, the crunch of footsteps on cinder. You didn’t turn.

“I know what you think of me.” Adrian Voss’s voice was low, stripped of its usual polished arrogance. “But this wasn’t an accident.”

You rose, dusting soot from your palms. Your eyes met his—and for once, the billionaire’s gaze held no mockery. Only a raw, unguarded fear. The same fear you’d seen in a falcon’s eyes when its perch was threatened.

“You think I don’t know who did this?” you said, your voice flat. “I’ve been watching the smoke rise from your rivals’ chimneys for years.”

Voss stepped closer, close enough that you could smell the expensive cologne fighting the stench of ash. “Then you know why I’m here. I need you. Not my money. Not my lawyers. You.”

What happens next is up to you.
