The Fabricated Self

Your whole life is a lie—and the only man who knows the truth is the billionaire who built it.

You've always been the invisible assistant, the one who keeps the office running. But a routine background check for a security clearance shatters everything: your apartment, your friends, even your childhood photos—all fabricated by your elusive billionaire boss. Now he's the only one who can tell you who you really are, and he's holding the truth hostage in a game of wits where the prize is your identity. With your past erased and your future in his hands, you must decide: play his game and risk losing yourself, or walk away and never know the truth. In this high-stakes office romance, the only thing more dangerous than the secrets he's hiding is the attraction you can't deny.

The story begins

The elevator hums as it climbs, glass walls revealing the city sprawl below. You adjust your blazer, the fabric still crisp from this morning's dry cleaning—a habit you've kept without knowing why. The background check. That's what they called it. Routine, they'd said. But the email had come at 3:47 AM, and you'd been awake since.

The doors slide open onto the penthouse floor. Marble, brushed steel, and the smell of expensive coffee. The Architect's office is a glass box at the end of the hall, blinds half-drawn, casting everything in slanting light. He's already standing, back to you, staring at a screen that shows nothing but code.

"Close the door," he says, voice flat. "Sit."

You do. The chair is leather, cold against your legs. He turns, and for a moment, he studies you—not with the detached gaze of an employer, but with something else. Recognition. Like he's been waiting for this conversation for years.

"Your name is not your name," he says. "Your past is a file I wrote. I'm sorry."

The silence stretches. His eyes hold yours, unblinking, and you realize he isn't finished.

What happens next is up to you.
