The Faulty Blueprint

Mature

You see what he's paid everyone to ignore—now you're trapped in the sky with a man who can't afford the truth.

As a structural engineer, you've certified your share of shaky foundations. But when you're hired to sign off on billionaire Marcus Kessler's latest skyscraper, you spot a fatal flaw that cuts to the bone—and he knows you see it. When a storm strands you both in the unfinished building, his desperate need to control the story turns into a hostage situation, and the only way out is to convince him you're not just lying to protect yourself. A tense, slow-burn romance about power, guilt, and the price of integrity.

The story begins

The crack was a hairline thing, a silver thread against the raw steel of the beam—but you knew it was wrong. You knew it the way you knew a heartbeat skipping: wrong rhythm, wrong story. The beam shouldn't have that joint there. The blueprints said it shouldn't.

Rain hammered the glass like fists, and through the half-finished shell of the 89th floor, the city below flickered in and out of existence, a drowned constellation. Marcus Kessler stood two feet behind you, close enough to smell his cologne—something expensive, sandalwood and smoke.

"Impressive view, isn't it?" His voice was smooth, practiced. "Ninety stories of legacy."

You touched the crack. It ran deep.

"Marcus," you said, and your voice came out steadier than you felt. "This beam was altered. The load calculations—"

The lights cut. The building groaned, a sound like a wounded animal, and the elevator at the far end of the floor shuddered once, twice, then died.

Marcus's hand found your shoulder. His grip was too tight.

"Let's not panic," he said. But his eyes were doing something else entirely.

What happens next is up to you.
