The Glass Life

Mature

Every friend, every job, every smile—his design. Now he wants you to see it all.

You're a librarian with a quiet routine: a cozy apartment, a circle of loyal friends, a job you love. But when enigmatic billionaire Adrian Voss appears at your desk with a confession, the glass walls of your life shatter. He's been orchestrating your world for years, pulling strings so you'd feel safe, wanted, and—he hopes—ready for him. Now he's offering you the truth and a choice: remain in the beautiful, curated lie, or step into his world of power and danger. But if you leave, you lose everyone you thought you knew—including the life you built with your own hands. A darkly romantic thriller about free will, obsession, and the price of being loved by a man who can buy anything except your heart.

The story begins

The rain fell in sheets, a silver curtain that turned the library's tall windows into blurred glass. You were shelving returns, your fingers tracing the worn spines of a dozen forgotten novels, when the air changed. The heavy oak door, which always stuck, swung open without a sound.

A man stood there, shaking water from an expensive coat. He was tall, lean, with sharp cheekbones and eyes the color of storm clouds. He looked at you, not like a stranger, but like someone who had memorized the way you moved. He walked past the front desk, past the reading tables, and stopped three feet from you.

"Miss Elara," he said. His voice was low, controlled, a velvet over steel. "I've waited a long time for this."

Your heart hammered. You didn't know his face, but something in the way he traced the edges of your name—like a taste—made your skin prickle.

"I'm sorry, do I know you?" you asked, holding the book to your chest like a shield.

He smiled, a thin, knowing thing. "No. But you will."

What happens next is up to you.
