Due at Midnight

Mature

You have until midnight to save your sister—and the only man who can help is the billionaire who once fired you.

Your sister's life hangs in the balance, and the clock is ticking toward midnight. The one person with the money to save her is Julian Kessler, the ruthless billionaire who terminated you for refusing his advances. Now he's offering a deal: spend the night in his penthouse, under his terms. As the hours slip away, you must navigate a gilded trap where every moment brings you closer to saving your sister—and closer to losing yourself to the man who holds all the cards. A high-stakes billionaire romance where desire and desperation collide.

The story begins

The elevator doors slid open with a whisper of silk, and you stepped into the penthouse’s foyer—a cavern of black marble and cold light. Rain lashed the glass walls, the city a blur of drowned neon below. Julian Kessler stood by the wet bar, pouring two fingers of amber whiskey, his back to you. He didn’t turn.

“You’re on time,” he said, voice flat as the stone underfoot. “That’s a start.”

You’d worn your best coat, the one with the frayed cuff, and you could feel his gaze slide over you in the mirror behind the bar—a slow inventory, a predator’s habit. He finally turned, glass in hand, and let his eyes rest on yours. “I have the check. It’s in the safe. You know what I want.”

Your sister’s face flashed behind your eyes—her laugh, her trust. You swallowed the bile rising in your throat.

“Terms,” you said, and your voice was steadier than you felt.

Julian smiled, thin and sharp. “You stay. You don’t leave until midnight. And you don’t pretend you’re not here for more than the money.”

He set the glass down, took a step closer. “Do we have a deal?”

What happens next is up to you.
