The Hollow Homecoming

You return from war to a cursed name, a salted field, and a stranger wearing your father's ring.

A decade of battle has forged you into a reluctant hero, and you return to your ancestral hamlet expecting a hero's welcome. Instead, you find the fields salted, your family's name cursed, and a stranger wearing your father's signet ring—and they know a secret that can destroy you. To reclaim your legacy and uncover the truth, you must navigate a web of betrayal and survival in a medieval world that has forgotten you. The impossible choice: trust the stranger who wears your father's ring, or destroy them—and yourself—in the process.

The story begins

The mud of Greyhollow’s main lane squelched under your boots, cold and thin as watered blood. You’d ridden through the night to see it—the salt-crusted fields, the blackened rafters of your father’s hall—and now the whole village had turned out to watch you arrive, their faces shuttered as wind-scoured stone. Ten years gone, and not a single door opened in welcome.

Then you saw him.

A stranger stood on the steps of your ancestral hall, one hand resting on the worn oak door as if he owned it. The signet ring on his finger caught the low sun—your father’s ring, the wolf’s head carved in blood-red stone.

“Ah,” he said, voice smooth as river ice. “The deserter returns.”

The word landed like a blow. Old Marta crossed herself by the well. Bram, your childhood friend, wouldn’t meet your eyes.

“That ring,” you said, your hand drifting to the hilt at your belt. “Where did you get it?”

The stranger smiled, slow and pitying. “From the man who had more right to it than you ever will.”

What happens next is up to you.
