The Salt in the Wound

Tonight, the tide brings your father's debt to your door—and your sister's life to the balance.

After a decade at sea, you return to your coastal hometown to find the debt your father left unpaid has come due. The creditor wants the map to the sunken wreck that holds your family's honor—the same wreck you swore you'd never dive again. As the tide rises and the memories of the storm that claimed your brother resurface, you must choose between saving your sister's life and facing the truth you escaped. A slow-burn sea adventure of survival, hidden secrets, and impossible choices.

The story begins

The tide was already licking at Mara's boots when you crested the dune, and the wind off the water carried the creak of straining rope. She was lashed to the old iron mooring post — the one the gulls used as a perch, the one that had held your father's skiff through a hundred storms. The sea had taken the pier's planks years ago; only the post remained, a black tooth in the dying light.

The Drowned Man stood ankle-deep in the surf, water dripping from his oilskin hood even though the sky was clear. He didn't turn when you landed at the bottom of the dune, breath burning.

"Mariner," he said, the word sliding like a stone into deep water. "I was beginning to think you'd let your sister drown."

Mara's laugh cut through the wind — brittle, defiant, exactly like her. "He's just slow, you waterlogged bastard. He'll get here." She tilted her chin at you, and in the fading light you saw the fear she was hiding behind the bravado. "Won't you, brother?"

The water was at her knees now.

The Drowned Man turned, and his eyes were the color of a shipwreck's shadow. "The map," he said. "You have until dawn."

What happens next is up to you.
