The Silent Stage

You've been the star of a story you never chose — now the mapmaker wants you to write your own ending.

For as long as you can remember, your life on this remote island has been a carefully orchestrated performance, with storms, shipwrecks, and rescues arriving on cue. A mysterious benefactor pulls the strings, and you've learned to play your part. But when a shipwrecked mapmaker reveals the truth — that your island is a stage, and a hidden control room holds the key to your freedom — you face an impossible choice: keep living the only world you know, or burn it down to find out what's real. Adventure, survival, and a slow-burning trust that might just save you both.

The story begins

The salt spray stung your cheeks as you knelt in the wet sand, your fingers brushing against the torn fabric of his shirt. The stranger's chest rose and fell in shallow, uneven breaths, his skin pale beneath the overcast sky. You'd found him tangled in the wreckage of a small boat, half-drowned, a gash across his forehead that was still bleeding freely into the foam.

You should have run for the stagehands. That's what the script demanded. But something in his hand caught your eye — a rolled piece of oilskin, clutched so tightly his knuckles were white.

His eyes snapped open.

"Don't," he rasped, grabbing your wrist with surprising strength. "Don't call them. They'll kill me."

You should have pulled away. Instead, you heard yourself ask, "Who are you?"

He laughed, a bitter sound that turned into a cough. "I'm the man who just found out your whole life is a lie." His grip tightened. "And I can prove it."

The wind shifted, carrying the distant hum of machinery from somewhere beneath the cliffs. The sound you'd been told was a generator, back when you were a child, back when you believed.

What happens next is up to you.
