The Silent Witness

Mature

You saw what he did. Now he wants you to see everything else.

You're the night-shift cleaner at Cross Tower, invisible among the marble and glass. Then you witness Julian Cross drown a woman in the rooftop pool. He finds you, should punish you, but instead offers a deal: your silence for his protection. But his protection is a cage, and his obsession grows with every secret he shares. The deeper you're pulled into his world, the harder it becomes to know if you're a witness, a prisoner, or something far more dangerous.

The story begins

The mop handle was cool against your palm, a familiar anchor in the penthouse’s marble silence. You’d learned the rhythm of this place—the hum of the climate control, the way the city’s glow bled through floor-to-ceiling glass, the soft slap of your shoes on wet stone. Invisible. That was the job.

You heard the splash first. A sound too heavy for the pool’s still surface. Then a gasp, strangled, cut short. You moved before thinking, boots silent on the deck, and saw him—Julian Cross, shirtless and dripping, his hand clamped over the woman’s mouth as he pressed her beneath the water. Her legs kicked once, twice. Then nothing.

He looked up. Straight at you. His eyes were calm, almost bored, as he released her body and it drifted, face-down, in the turquoise glow.

“You’re not supposed to be here,” he said, stepping out of the pool. Water streamed down his chest. He didn’t seem angry. He seemed curious.

The stairwell door was twenty feet behind you. Your legs were already moving.

What happens next is up to you.
