The Unearthed Lie

You wake to a map of your own forgotten life—and the architects of your reality are coming to erase you.

Your entire life—the village, the family, the friends—is a carefully constructed lie, designed to keep you from a treasure you once fought to find. Now, a letter from your past self reveals the truth, and the construct is unraveling. As the architects close in to reset your mind, you must follow the map to the real treasure before your memories are wiped for good. This is a story of survival and self-discovery, where every familiar face may be a trap and every step closer to the treasure brings you closer to the truth you were never meant to remember.

The story begins

The letter trembled in your grip, your own handwriting a ghost's accusation. You are not who you think you are. The words swam before your eyes as a low, resonant hum built from the forest's edge, seeping through the cabin's log walls like cold water. You crumpled the page, shoving it into your coat pocket, your gaze snapping to the window where the treeline shimmered—a heat-haze distortion that had no place in the mountain cold.

Your head throbbed, a sharp pulse behind your eyes that felt less like pain and more like a signal. The map lay unfurled on the table, its ink glowing faintly, tracing a path through the pines toward a mark that had no name. You didn't remember drawing it. You didn't remember the scar on your palm that matched its center.

A floorboard creaked behind you. The door stood ajar, though you'd locked it last night.

"Going somewhere?" The voice was calm, familiar—the village's kindly old mentor, his shadow stretching long across the floorboards.

The hum spiked. The walls flickered, and for a heartbeat you saw through them: a grid of light and wire, a machine's skeleton beneath a mountain's skin.

What happens next is up to you.
