The Unseen Vigil's Fall
You've been swapped with the man who stole your face, and the vault has sealed your fate.
Buried beneath the royal palace, the vault holds secrets no living soul should witness. When you catch a pale hermit slipping inside—and watch him emerge wearing your face—you're trapped in the vault's sealed depths. Now the hermit's twin rules above in your stead, and the only way out is to find the truth hidden in the vault's labyrinthine halls. Can you reclaim your identity before your impostor seals your doom forever?
The story begins
The iron door groaned behind you—a sound you’d heard a thousand times, but never like this. Never final. You pressed your palm against the cold seam, felt the ancient mechanism settle into place with a click that echoed down the vault’s throat.
Through the grille, torchlight flickered across the throne room floor. And there—ascending the dais with your unhurried stride, wearing your livery, your face—was the man who’d been a pale hermit only moments ago. He turned, smiled with your mouth, and gave the door a small, mocking wave.
Then the grille shut. The light vanished.
Darkness pressed in like water. Somewhere behind you, stone scraped against stone. A footfall, careful and light.
“Brother,” a voice breathed from the black, close enough to stir the hairs on your neck. “She saw you. She always saw everything.”
You’d spent six years memorizing this vault’s inventory—every alcove, every false panel, every tripwire. But you’d never once counted the shadows.
Something moved. Not toward you. Around you.
