The Doppelgänger's Descent
You're a street urchin mistaken for a lost heir—but the real heir is in the dungeon too, and it knows which of you is the fraud.
Survive the Voss family's ancient dungeon, where every trap and trial seems to test your identity as much as your nerve. You're a street urchin with a talent for staying alive, and when a chance encounter gets you thrown into the dark with the true heir, you must decide: help the person who could have you killed, or find the signet ring yourself and hope the dungeon doesn't kill you first. The dungeon's traps are vicious, but they're nothing compared to the creeping suspicion that the heir might be lying—and the real threat is something else entirely.
The story begins
The cold bit through your threadbare shirt as the guard’s boot connected with your ribs, shoving you face-first into the slime-slick stone. You'd been running for three streets, through the market’s fish guts and the temple’s back alleys, but they’d cornered you at the old aqueduct—and now the Warden was holding up the signet ring he’d pried from your finger, the one you’d lifted from the real heir’s pocket just minutes before he’d screamed for the watch.
“This seal bears the Voss serpent,” the Warden said, his voice like gravel grinding over bone. “Yet you wear rags and smell of the gutter. So either you’re the lost heir playing a very poor game—or you’re a thief who’s about to learn what this dungeon does to liars.”
You spat blood, grinned through the ache. “If I were the heir, I wouldn’t have needed to pick your master’s pocket to get a look at the place.”
The Warden’s eyes went flat. “Then you’ll go below and prove it. The ring stays with me. The dungeon’s traps will test you. Fail, and we’ll bury what’s left.” He nodded to the guards, and the cell door groaned open behind you—a pit of blackness that breathed out damp air and the faint, rhythmic scrape of something moving in the dark.
