The Ghost of Gilded Lane

You've built a quiet life as a florist, but the man who claims he saved you from a fire is rewriting your past one rose at a time.

For five years, you've tended your small flower shop, a sanctuary from the memories of Gilded Lane. But when the reclusive tycoon who once owned your childhood home returns, he insists you're the girl he rescued from a devastating fire—a fire you have no memory of. As he sends you roses that trigger impossible flashes of a life you never lived, you must decide: is he a grieving man clinging to a lie, or is he the key to a truth that will shatter everything you know? A haunting tale of gaslighting, obsession, and the fragile line between memory and madness.

The story begins

The snap of pruning shears was the only sound on the lane, crisp as the fallen maple leaves that skittered past your ankles. You knelt among the chrysanthemums—deep burgundy, rust, and gold—tending the beds that fronted your shop, Petals & Ash. Your fingers were stained with earth, your breath fogging in the perpetual autumn chill.

A shadow fell across you.

You looked up. He stood on the walk, a single white rose in his hand, wrapped in butcher's twine. His coat was obscenely expensive, his hair dark and swept back, his smile a careful, practiced thing that didn't quite reach his eyes. Julian Thorne. You hadn't seen him in years—you hadn't remembered him at all until the rumors started.

"These used to be her favorites," he said, voice low and intimate. "The burgundy ones. You'd pick them for your mother when the frost came."

Your mother had never liked flowers. She was allergic.

"Wrong house," you said, rising, wiping your hands on your apron. "My mother hated chrysanthemums."

His smile didn't waver. It widened, as if you'd confirmed something for him. "Not your mother. Yours."

What happens next is up to you.
