The Gilded Cradle

Mature

Wake up to a perfect life you never chose—and the man who built it.

You wake up in a penthouse you don't remember, married to a billionaire you've never met. Every detail of your life—your job, your friends, your favorite coffee shop—has been staged to make you fall in love with him. But when you uncover the hidden identity of the man behind the curtain, you must choose between the comfort of the lie and the chaos of the truth. A twisty billionaire romance where the only thing more dangerous than the secret is the heart that wants to stay.

The story begins

The first thing you register is the weight of the sheets—Egyptian cotton, impossibly smooth—and the scent of something floral and faintly chemical, like a high-end salon. Then the light. Golden. Late afternoon through floor-to-ceiling glass, the skyline a jagged crown of steel and glass beyond the bed.

You sit up too fast, and the room tilts. A man is there, at the edge of the mattress, watching you with the patient stillness of a predator who has already eaten. Adrian. His name surfaces from some deep well, attached to a feeling of safety you don't quite trust.

"Easy," he says, his voice a low, practiced hum. He reaches out, and his thumb brushes your temple, a gesture so intimate it feels rehearsed. "You had a dizzy spell. Doctor said it would pass."

Your mouth is dry. You try to speak, and what comes out is a question you didn't know you were going to ask.

"Who are you?"

His smile doesn't waver, but something behind his eyes dims, just for a second.

"Your husband, sweetheart. We've been married for two years."

He says it like he's told a hundred people a hundred times. Maybe he has.

What happens next is up to you.
