The Inheritance Gauntlet

Mature

You enter a billionaire's deadly contest—but the prize is your life, not his fortune.

When you receive a cryptic invitation to compete for a billion-dollar inheritance, you think it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. But each challenge is a brutal puzzle masterminded by the billionaire's cold, calculating son, and the losers don't just walk away—they disappear. As you climb the ranks, you uncover a sinister truth: the real prize is survival, and the only way out is to outplay the man who holds all the cards. In this dark, high-stakes billionaire romance, every move could be your last, and the trust you place in a rival might be the only thing that keeps you alive.

The story begins

The safe room stank of iodine and old pennies—your blood, mostly. You'd wrapped your forearm with a strip torn from the bedsheet, knotting it with your teeth, and now you sat on the cot's edge, counting the drones humming beyond the door. Three. Maybe four. The chessboard's screams still rang in your skull, the wet crack of the black queen's mace finding that poor bastard from Omaha.

The intercom clicked. Julian's voice poured through, honeyed and unhurried. "Congratulations. You survived my father's favorite opening. He so loved a sacrifice." A pause, the soft clink of ice in a glass. "The tunnels beneath us are lovely this time of year. One of you will not leave them. Consider it a culling of the herd."

The door hissed open. In the corridor stood the Rival—coat torn at the shoulder, a shallow cut weeping at their hairline—and they looked at you like you were a lock they'd already picked. "You're bleeding on the floor," they said. "That's how they track you. The iodine. It's laced." They extended a hand, palm open. "Alliance. For the tunnels. Or don't, and I'll see you on the other side of the dark."

What happens next is up to you.
