The Ruin We Share

Mature

You’re the one he ruined—and the only one who can save your brother.

Five years ago, billionaire Martin Voss exposed your family’s fraud, leaving your name in ruins and your father in prison. Now your brother stands accused of murder, and the only evidence that could clear him is buried in the very secret that destroyed you. Martin offers an alliance—but he’s hiding a secret of his own, and the truth might cost you both more than your reputations. In a world of boardroom betrayals and dark bargains, you’ll have to decide what you’re willing to sacrifice to save the family you have left.

The story begins

The rain-slicked pavement of the courthouse steps felt like a final judgment under your shoes. You'd worn your father's old overcoat—a mistake, you realized, as the familiar scent of his cologne clung to the wool like a ghost. The reporters' cameras flashed, a strobe-light storm of vultures, and you kept your chin up, the way you'd been taught. The way your brother hadn't.

You caught his eye through the glass doors. Marcus, pale and hollowed, his hands cuffed in front of him. He shook his head once—a small, desperate motion that said I didn't do this without a sound. You'd known it before he even moved.

Then the doors opened, and the bailiff led him out. The crowd surged. A woman in a sharp charcoal suit stepped into your path, her voice cutting through the noise.

"Ms. Hale. Mr. Voss is waiting. He says he can help your brother—if you're willing to pay his price."

The name landed like a slap. Martin Voss. The man who'd gutted your family on live television.

You looked past her, to the black sedan idling at the curb. The window rolled down just enough to reveal a profile you'd spent five years learning to hate.

The clock was ticking. The choice was yours.

What happens next is up to you.
