The Toxic Treasure

Mature

You authenticate art for a recluse—but the real masterpiece is a bioweapon, and he's the one holding the brush.

As the world's finest forgery expert, you've seen every trick in the book—until a reclusive tycoon summons you to verify a priceless artifact. The job spirals into a nightmare when you realize the 'treasure' is a vial of deadly bioweapon, and the tycoon is a black-market dealer. With the city hanging in the balance, your only hope is to trust the man who hired you to lie. A dark, gritty thriller where every brushstroke hides a secret and every choice could be your last.

The story begins

The elevator hummed, a glass cage ascending through the city's glittering spine. You pressed two fingers to your temple, feeling the faint pulse of the wine you'd accepted from Vane's driver—a calculated acceptance, part of the mask you wore. Your own reflection stared back, unreadable, a weapon honed by years of decoding lies in brushstrokes and bone structure.

The doors slid open onto a penthouse that breathed money. Floor-to-ceiling windows framed a skyline bleeding neon, and there he stood—Marcus Vane, back to you, silhouetted against the city he supposedly owned. "You're punctual," he said, not turning. "Rare in your profession."

"My profession is about precision," you replied, stepping into the marble coolness. "The relic?"

He turned, finally, and there was something hungry in his eyes—not for you, but for what you carried. He gestured to a steel case on the table between you. "A gift. From a dealer who no longer needs it."

The case opened with a hiss of sealant. Inside, nestled in black velvet, sat a vial of amber liquid. Ancient glass, you knew—but the contents were newer, far more dangerous. Your pulse quickened, and you heard the door lock behind you.

"I'm not authenticating that," you said.

"No," Vane agreed, a ghost of a smile on his lips. "You're going to help me destroy it."

What happens next is up to you.
