The Oath of the Silent Deep

You guard the Abyssal Gate with your voice—but your daughter's life may demand it back.

For a decade, you have kept the Abyssal Gate sealed, your voice given as payment for the ancient oath that binds you. Tonight, the gate cracks, and your estranged daughter arrives seeking refuge, hunted by forces that would see the deep unleashed. To save her, you must break the very vow that has defined you—and face the sea's wrath. The choice between duty and blood will echo in the drowning dark, where every silence is a scream and every word could be your last. This is a tale of survival, impossible sacrifice, and the slow-burn reckoning of a parent's love against an ancient curse.

The story begins

The storm had teeth tonight. You felt them in the shudder of the lighthouse's stone bones, in the salt-laden wind that screamed through every crack like a choir of the drowned. The lantern above cast its swinging beam across the churning black, and in that sweep of light, you saw the skiff—a dark splinter against the rocks, already breaking apart.

Your hands, calloused from a decade of this vigil, gripped the iron railing of the gallery. The gate below groaned in answer to the storm, a sound you felt in your sternum, a vibration of something vast and patient shifting in its prison. The cracks were spreading; you'd traced them that morning, hairline fractures in the seal, weeping a dark ichor that smelled of deep time and rot.

Then, a figure. Tumbling from the wreckage, stumbling up the slick black rocks, a pale smudge of a face turned up toward the light. A woman, slight and fierce, blood streaming from a gash on her temple. She was screaming something, but the wind ripped the words away.

You knew the shape of her. You knew the desperation in that stride. The last time you saw that face, she was eleven years old, and you were telling her goodbye.

Now she was here, and the gate was failing, and your voice—your payment, your power—sat like a stone in your throat.

What happens next is up to you.
