The Restorer's Lie

Every brushstroke of your life was his masterpiece—now you must decide if the truth is worth losing everything.

You've spent years restoring old portraits, proud of your honest craft and the quiet life you've built. But a chance encounter at an auction reveals a devastating truth: your entire past is a forgery, painted by a billionaire art collector who has been subtly guiding your life from the shadows since childhood. He owns every brushstroke of your story, and now he wants you to restore his final masterpiece—a portrait that could expose the thirty-year lie he'll kill to protect. As the cracks in his perfect world begin to show, you must choose between the life you thought you had and the truth you can't unsee. A gripping tale of art, deception, and forbidden love.

The story begins

The auctioneer's gavel cracked like a gunshot, but you barely heard it. Your gloved fingers hovered over the canvas—a supposed Vermeer, up for private inspection before the lot closed. The room smelled of old varnish and expensive perfume, of money held breath.

Your loupe caught the brushwork at the edge of the woman's collar. Three strokes. Deliberate. Unhurried. The way you'd learned to lay white lead over shadow—a technique Mira had drilled into you a thousand times, until it became muscle memory.

Your own signature. But you'd never painted this.

"Remarkable, isn't it?" The voice came from behind you, low and silk-smooth. "The way a master's hand never truly lies."

You turned. Julian Ashford stood close enough that you caught his cologne—cedar, something older. His smile was practiced, his eyes anything but warm.

"You've been watching me," you said.

"Since before you knew to hold a brush." He gestured to the painting. "That's yours. The one you don't remember making. And I have the key to the door you've never opened."

The auctioneer's voice rang out, and the room seemed to tilt.

What happens next is up to you.
