The Vault's Secret

Mature

You clean his penthouse, but the vault you find holds your entire past—and the man who handed you champagne has been pulling your strings for decades.

As a cleaner in the penthouse of enigmatic tech billionaire Julian Cross, you stumble upon a hidden vault filled with surveillance footage of your own childhood. The man who just offered you a glass of champagne has been secretly orchestrating your family's downfall for years. Now you must decide: flee and lose everything, or play his dangerous game long enough to expose him—all while his touch makes you forget the cost. A forbidden romance thriller where the line between enemy and lover blurs with every glimpse into the vault.

The story begins

The silk of Julian Cross’s bedsheet slipped through your fingers as you smoothed it flat, the penthouse’s floor-to-ceiling windows bleeding a bruised dusk over the city. You’d done this a hundred times—the careful, invisible work of a cleaner—but tonight your pulse hammered against your ribs. The vault door, disguised as a mahogany panel beside his closet, stood ajar by half an inch.

You’d found it an hour ago, when the cleaning schedule said he’d be in Tokyo. But Julian wasn’t in Tokyo. He was standing in the doorway now, watching you with a stillness that made the air itself feel fragile.

“You’re thorough,” he said, voice low and warm, like he was savoring a secret. “I appreciate that.”

Your hand froze on the duvet. The file you’d glimpsed inside—your mother’s name in crisp black type—burned behind your eyes.

“I’ll finish up and leave,” you said, not meeting his gaze.

He stepped closer, the scent of cedar and something sharper curling around you. “No,” he murmured. “You’ll stay for dinner.”

What happens next is up to you.
