Zero-Dawn Gauntlet

Mature

You enter a lethal survival competition, only to discover you're the main event in a blood sport.

Your sister is dying, and the only cure costs more than you can earn—until you hear about the Zero-Dawn Gauntlet, a televised extreme survival contest with a prize that could save her. But the arena is a deathtrap disguised as a challenge, and the producers aren't just broadcasting your struggle—they're betting on your blood. As you fight through brutal trials and forge uneasy alliances, you realize the real game is darker than any obstacle, and the only way out is to turn the hunters into the hunted. Welcome to the show, where surviving isn't enough—you have to win.

The story begins

The wind is a dry blade across your face, carrying the grit of the simulated desert. Heat shimmers off the dune ahead, and the cameras hum overhead like metallic birds of prey. You’re crouched behind a rusted shipping container, your breath ragged, your knuckles white around the metal water canteen that’s already half-empty.

A voice crackles from hidden speakers—Warden’s voice, smooth as polished glass. “Welcome, contestants, to the first trial. The clock starts now. Reach the green beacon in forty minutes, or forfeit the prize.”

You’ve barely moved when a scream tears through the air, sharp and human. You turn to see a woman—the one who introduced herself as Mara, a former marathon runner—collapse into a pit that wasn’t there a second ago. The sand swallows her whole, and the cameras swoop in closer, drinking the moment.

The arena floor shifts. Somewhere behind you, Kestrel’s voice cuts through the chaos, low and mocking. “First blood. They always make it look accidental.”

You glance at your sister’s photo tucked inside your jacket. The prize. The cure. You have to moveThe sand shifts beneath your boots as you break from cover, lungs burning with the heat and the weight of what you just witnessed. Mara's scream still echoes in your skull, but you don't look back. You can't.

Kestrel falls into step beside you, her movements fluid, practiced—a predator who's learned the terrain. "Forty minutes," she says, voice tight. "They always lie about the easy ones."

Ahead, the green beacon pulses atop a skeletal tower half-buried in the dunes. Between you and it, the ground ripples in waves that have nothing to do with heat mirage. The arena is breathing, waiting.

"They'll have something in the sand," Kestrel continues, her eyes scanning. "Last season, it was acid sprayers. The season before, buried spikes. They like to recycle."

Your canteen sloshes against your hip. The photo of your sister presses warm against your chest. You've trained for this—endurance runs at dawn, rock climbing at dusk, every survival show memorized. But none of that prepared you for the way the cameras track your every flinch, the way Warden's voice seems to coil around your spine.

The ground trembles. Something mechanical whirs beneath the dune ahead.

What happens next is up to you.
