The Architect's Ghost

Mature

Your town is a stage, and the architect is coming to reset the scene.

You've lived your whole life in the idyllic town of Havenbrook, where everyone knows your name and the sun always shines. But when a stranger hands you a map drawn in your own handwriting—dated thirty years ago—the cracks begin to show. Every building, every neighbor, every memory is a facade, and you're the only one who can walk the hidden paths to the real world before the architect arrives to tear it all down. Uncover the truth behind your fabricated existence, escape the gilded prison, and decide who you really are before the world resets.

The story begins

The old grandfather clock in the parlor ticked backward—seven, six, five—and you paused, dust-rag in hand, watching the pendulum swing in reverse. You'd lived in Havenbrook all your life, and still, the small impossibilities itched at the back of your mind like a splinter you couldn't dig out. The clock. The window upstairs that faced east when every other faced west. The way Mrs. Albright's roses bloomed in December.

Then the front door slammed open.

A man stumbled across your threshold, and the clock stopped altogether. He was all torn coat and blood-dark stains, gasping like he'd run from the end of the world. His hand shot out, grabbing your wrist with a desperation that left bruises, and he pressed a crumpled paper into your palm.

"Reset," he wheezed. "She's coming. The Architect is—" A cough tore from him, wet and terrible. His eyes found yours, and something in them cracked wide open. "You drew that map, thirty years ago. You don't remember, but you did."

You looked down. Your handwriting. Your ink. A map of streets you'd never seen, leading to a place you'd never been.

His grip tightened. "Find the Curator. She'll show you—"

The world shuddered. The room flickered, gray and hollow, and when it snapped back, Elias was dead on your floor. And through the window, the neighbor's curtain twitched. Mrs. Albright was watching, and she was smiling too wide.

What happens next is up to you.
