The Water Vow

Betrayed by a broken treaty, you must cross the burning wastes to find a legendary well—before your people die of thirst.

As the daughter of a desert chieftain, you were traded to a rival tribe as a living guarantee of a water-rights treaty—a pawn in a game of survival. But when the rival leader breaks the pact, you escape into the unforgiving wastes, hunted by the tribe that once held you. The only hope for your people lies in the fabled Well of Ancestors, a source of water your own father swore didn't exist. Now, to save your tribe, you must unravel the lies your family built—and decide if the truth is worth the price.

The story begins

The wind clawed at your cloak, tearing grit across your face as you crested the dune. Behind you, the smoke of the burned treaty camp still stained the sky—a black smear on the horizon that promised pursuit. Your father's lie had cost them their water, their faith, and nearly your life.

Sera pressed close, her hand on your elbow, steadying you as the sand shifted beneath your boots. "They'll track us by dawn," she said, her voice low, urgent. "The Warden knows this territory better than we do."

You pulled the fragmented map from your tunic—a scrap of cured hide, its ink faded to ghost lines. Old Man Ren's markings curved toward a jagged cluster of ruins to the north. The Well of Ancestors, if the legend held truth.

But the map ended in a smear of dried blood. The last line was a single word, written in a hand you didn't recognize: Beneath.

Kael's voice cut through the wind's howl from behind a ridge of rock. "You won't make the ruins by nightfall. Not alone."

You turned. He stood at the edge of the dune, his cloak whipping, his face unreadable. He was supposed to be your enemy. He was holding a waterskin.

What happens next is up to you.
