The Serpent's Oath

Mature

Your blood-oath to a dead explorer is killing you, and the only way out is to betray the one promise you can't break.

You swore a blood-oath to a dead explorer to deliver his treasure map to the Temple of Whispers, but the oath is sealed with a venom that will consume your soul if you fail. When a debt-collector sorceress offers to free you in exchange for the map, you face an impossible choice: betray your oath to save your family, or press on while the venom gnaws at you. As the temple's relentless guardians close in, every step deeper into the wilderness exacts a heavier toll. This is a dark survival adventure where loyalty, sacrifice, and the true cost of treasure collide.

The story begins

The dead explorer’s hand was still warm when you pried the map from his fingers. His eyes had gone glassy, staring at the bruised sky above the canyon, and the oath he’d forced from you still burned in your throat like swallowed ash. The venom had already begun its slow crawl through your veins—a cold, patient thing, coiling beneath your skin.

Mara’s cough echoed off the stone walls behind you. You didn’t turn. You couldn’t.

The map was old, the ink faded to a rusty brown, and the path it traced wound through a wilderness that had swallowed better men than the one at your feet. Somewhere beyond the ridge, the temple waited. And somewhere closer, something else moved—a shadow that didn’t match the rocks, slipping between the pillars of a ruined arch.

You heard the whisper of shifting stone. The air went still.

“You’ve made a promise,” a voice said, smooth as silk over a knife’s edge. “A pity. Promises are such fragile things.”

Sera Vex stepped out of the shadow, her silver eyes gleaming like coins in the dying light.

What happens next is up to you.
