The Cartographer's Downfall

You built the traps that guard the Sunken Vault—now you must chart a way through them before the mer-queen's ritual drowns you both.

You were the world's most renowned tomb-raider, until a job gone wrong left a partner dead and your reputation in ruins. Now, a ghost from that past has resurfaced as your patron, offering one final job: chart the Sunken Vault before the mer-queen's ritual floods it forever. But the vault is a labyrinth of traps you designed in another life, and every corridor is a reminder of the betrayal that haunts you. To escape with your life—and maybe your soul—you'll have to outsmart your own deadly genius and the specter who knows every secret you've tried to bury.

The story begins

The salt-crusted stone was cold against your palm as you pressed flat against the corridor wall, listening to the water drip somewhere in the dark ahead. The lantern in your other hand threw long shadows that danced like living things, and you could taste the brine on your tongue—thick, ancient, wrong for a dungeon that should have been sealed for centuries.

Three steps ahead. Pressure plate. The floor gives way to a spike pit filled with something that used to be water but had become something else.

You knew these traps. You'd designed them. That was the bitter irony of being back here—your own handiwork, laid down in a lifetime you'd tried to bury, now the only thing between you and the vault's heart.

The air shifted behind you, cold and familiar. Not a presence—a weight. The ghost of a touch that wasn't there.

"You're hesitating," came the voice, soft as drowned silk. Maren. "You never used to hesitate."

You didn't turn around. "I never used to build deathtraps for my partner, either."

A pause. Then a low, bitter laugh that echoed off the flooded stones. "No. You built them for us. There's a difference."

What happens next is up to you.
