The Embertongue's Last Keeper

Mature

You speak the language of sleeping volcanoes—and the empire that enslaved your people wants you to wake one.

As the last living keeper of the Embertongue, you command dormant volcanoes—a gift your people were enslaved for. Now the empire that broke your kin wants you to awaken a mountain to forge a weapon. But your sister is held hostage, and the only way to save her may be to unleash the very cataclysm that could end them all. Choose between the life of the one you love and the vengeance of a people. Survival, obsession, and impossible choices await in a world of ash and fire.

The story begins

The forge-cough rattled your chest as you hauled the next bar of imperial steel from the quenching bath, steam hissing against your forearms. The overseer’s whip cracked somewhere behind you, but you’d learned to read the sound of its approach like weather. Your fingers, black with soot and old burns, moved with the rhythm of four years’ servitude.

Then the ground sighed.

It wasn’t the tremor of a cart passing. It was deeper—a slow, belly-deep groan that vibrated through the stone floor and up your spine. The forge fires guttered. Every slave in the hall froze, eyes wide, and the overseer’s whip faltered mid-air.

You felt it in your teeth. In your marrow.

The Embertongue stirred in your chest like a sleeping beast rolling over. The volcano beneath the foundry-city wasn’t dormant. It was listening.

You hadn’t spoken a word of the old language in years. But the mountain remembered your voice.

A runner burst through the iron doors, pale and spattered with ash. “Commander Veyra summons the forge-scum. All of them. Now.”

She was coming for you. And she wouldn’t be coming alone.

What happens next is up to you.
