The Debt Collector's Dance

Your debt comes due in a collapsing dungeon, and only your forgotten past can lead the way out.

For a century, you've owed a debt to the shadowy Guild of Collectors. Tonight, they've sent their agent to collect—not in gold, but in a perilous pilgrimage through the ever-shifting labyrinth of the Vault of Echoes. The irony? You built its escape routes in a past life you can't remember. Every passage is a mirror of a choice you made when your memories were whole, and each step threatens to bury you in the rubble of history. With the clock ticking and the walls closing in, you must rely on a stranger's cryptic guidance and the fragments of a life you've lost. But the deeper you go, the more you realize: the debt isn't just about what you owe—it's about the truth of who you were, and the ancient horror you helped entomb. To survive, you'll have to decide what you're willing to sacrifice: the treasure, the truth, or yourself.

The story begins

The rain hit your face like a thousand cold needles as the Collector’s skeletal fingers pressed against your shoulder blade, guiding you toward the maw of the mountain. The Vault of Echoes yawned before you—a black wound in the cliffside, its stone lips chipped and weeping moss. Above, the storm clawed at the peaks, but the silence inside was worse. It was the silence of something holding its breath.

Behind you, Kaelen’s boots squelched in the mud. You didn’t turn. You could feel their hatred like a blade pressed to your spine.

“You remember this place,” the Collector said. Not a question. Their voice slipped through the rain like oil on water. “Your hands twitch. Your feet already know the first three steps.”

You looked down. Your boots had moved without permission, aligning with worn grooves in the stone. The floor was older than the empire. Older than your debt.

“I don’t remember anything,” you said.

The Collector tilted their faceless head. “No. But the vault does.”

A low rumble rolled through the mountain. Deep inside, stone ground against stone. Something was waking.

What happens next is up to you.
