The Scripted Sky

You've lived your whole life in a painted village—now the canvas is tearing, and the architect is watching.

You've spent your entire life in the peaceful village of Verdane, where the sun always sets gold and the harvest never fails. But when a dying explorer's journal surfaces, you discover a horrifying truth: your home is a stage, your neighbors are constructs, and even the sky is a painted backdrop. The only way out is to play the role the architect has written for you—but the script is crumbling, and the cracks are showing. As reality unravels, you must decide: follow the story to freedom, or rewrite it at the cost of everyone you've ever known.

The story begins

The journal hit the cobblestones with a sound like a bird breaking its wing. The stranger who'd stumbled into Verdane's square didn't even try to catch it—he was too busy bleeding, a dark bloom spreading across his tunic, his breath coming in wet, desperate gasps.

You were at his side before anyone else moved. The script said the villager who stays helps the fallen. That's what you told yourself as you pressed your palm to the wound, feeling the warmth seep between your fingers.

His eyes found yours. "You… you're real?" he rasped. "Or just another one?"

Elowen was already pushing through the crowd, her healer's hands reaching for him. But the stranger gripped your wrist with startling strength, pulling you close.

"Read it," he whispered, nodding toward the journal. "Before she… before they…"

His hand went slack. Elowen's voice was calm, soothing, exactly as it always was—but something in her gaze flickered, just for an instant, like a candle caught in a draft.

The journal lay open at your feet. You could see the words: The sky is painted. The door is hidden in the script.

What happens next is up to you.
