The False Heir
MatureYou've stolen a dead man's name—now his ghost demands the truth.
Shipwrecked on a storm-lashed coast, you're dragged from the surf and mistaken for the missing heir to the Ashwick dynasty. The decaying estate welcomes you with open arms, but the house itself knows better—the true heir was murdered, and his restless ghost haunts every shadowed hall. To keep your stolen identity, you must uncover the killer and claim a throne built on lies, all while the specter threatens to expose you at every turn. A gothic tale of survival, betrayal, and impossible choices.
The story begins
The sea had been a hammer, relentless, and you had been the anvil. Salt stung your eyes, sand grated between your teeth, and the taste of copper—your own blood from a split lip—mixed with the brine. You dragged yourself up the shingle, knees scraping against stone, as the storm behind you spat its fury at the cliffs.
Voices cut through the gale. Lantern light swung in the dark.
"God above—it's the young master! He's alive! Aldric! Aldric Ashwick!"
The name hit you like a second wave. Aldric Ashwick. The missing heir. The one the whole coast had whispered about for a year, presumed drowned in a storm not unlike this one. The man who, by every account, had been the last of a dying, cursed line.
You lifted your head, let the rain wash the blood from your brow. You did not correct them.
"Help me get him inside," a woman's voice ordered, sharp and familiar with authority. "Bram, take his other side. And for the love of God, get him out of this weather."
Strong hands hauled you upright. You let them. Survival had always been a matter of timing, and tonight, the tide had turned in your favor.
