The Inherited Storm
MatureYou inherited a lighthouse on a reef that shouldn't exist—and the storm it commands is hungry for its first keeper.
You're a harbor dredger who just inherited a lighthouse on a reef that shouldn't exist—and the storm it commands is hungry for its first keeper. Each night, you must light the lamp to keep the deep at bay, but every flash reveals a drowned ship that never sailed, and the keeper's log says you are the last one. As the sea closes in, you uncover a conspiracy of drowned captains and a choice that could break the storm's curse or doom the coast forever. A gritty survival horror where every wave hides a secret, and the lighthouse's light is the only thing between you and the abyss.
The story begins
The key turned with a groan of rusted iron, the lock older than any you'd ever touched. Rain lashed your face, stinging like salt spray thrown by a fist, and the wind tore at the oilskin coat you'd pulled from the Sanderling's cabin. The lighthouse loomed above you, a black needle punching into a sky the color of a fresh bruise.
The door gave way, and the smell of it hit you: cold stone, burnt oil, and something else—a sweetness like rotting kelp, thick enough to coat your tongue. The light was off. It should have been burning. The old keeper, your great-uncle Elias, had died three weeks ago, and the coast had been dark ever since.
The harbor master's warning came back to you, shouted over the storm as you'd pushed off from the dock. "Don't light it. No matter what you see. You'll want to look out to sea. Don't."
You stepped inside, and the door slammed shut behind you, swallowing the sound of the storm. The silent dark pressed in. Then, at the top of the spiral stairs, a glow flickered—a lantern, swinging. A figure stood at the top, holding it. A woman. Maren.
"Took you long enough, dredger." Her voice was flat. "The light's not going to light itself."
