The Last Pathmaker

You carve the way, but every line costs a memory—and the warlord's army is closing in.

In a world where roads shift like sand, you are the last pathmaker—a cartographer whose drawn routes become reality. When the warlord who rules the high passes takes your daughter, you must navigate a living maze of your own design to save her. But each line you carve sends tremors through the earth—and through your own fading mind. With your memory erasing itself one stroke at a time, you must decide how much of yourself you're willing to sacrifice to unmake the only map that can lead you out.

The story begins

The wind screamed through the high pass, a blade of ice that carried the smell of snow and something older—stone ground to dust by ages of war. You pressed your back against the cliff, the map-scars on your forearms burning beneath your gloves, and watched the warlord's riders crest the ridge a hundred paces below. There were six of them, armored in black iron, and at their center rode a woman whose hood did not hide the familiar set of her shoulders.

Elara.

Your heart lurched. She was alive. She was also a prisoner, her wrists bound to the saddle horn, her chin high even in chains. The riders hadn't seen you yet. The path behind them was already shifting, scree sliding into the chasm below, erasing their tracks—and your only way back.

A voice, low and amused, spoke from the shadow of a boulder at your side. "You're the pathmaker, aren't you? The one with the map in his skin."

You turned. A lean figure in a traveler's cloak, a blade half-drawn, eyes bright with calculation. Sable. She smiled, and it didn't reach her eyes.

"Kael's price just went up," she said. "He wants your daughter and your past. How much of yourself are you willing to carve away?"

What happens next is up to you.
