The Puppet's Road

You find a map drawn in your own hand that leads to the truth behind your manufactured life.

Your quiet life in the valley has always felt unremarkable—until a stranger hands you a map drawn in your own hand, a map you've never seen. It reveals your hometown, your family, and even your memories are a constructed stage, a puppet show with you as the only unwitting player. The only way out is to walk the map to its end, where the architect waits to decide if you deserve to exist. This is a harrowing journey of survival and self-discovery, where every step unravels the lies that bind you and every choice tests whether you can forge a real identity from the ruins of a fabricated one.

The story begins

The rain had stopped by the time you reached the diner’s glass door, but the chill clung to your collar. The place was empty except for a figure in the corner booth, a map spread across the table like a fallen wing. Your map. Your handwriting—the looping M in Miller’s Creek, the small star you’d always drawn beside home—but you’d never seen it before in your life.

The stranger didn’t look up. “You’re late.”

“I don’t know you.” Your voice came out steadier than you felt.

“No,” they said, finally lifting their eyes, pale as winter light. “But you know this road. Every turn, every dead tree. You drew it in your sleep, every night, for years.” They slid the map toward you. “The question is why your hand remembers a place your mind refuses to.”

Outside, the diner’s neon flickered, and for a heartbeat, the street beyond it looked wrong—the houses too symmetrical, the trees too still.

What happens next is up to you.
