The Last Geomancer's Price
You can shape stone into salvation, but every bridge you build costs a memory—and the one you've already lost may be the key to saving yourself.
You are the last geomancer, the sole survivor of a conclave that could sing stone into arches and raise mountains. Now, with the mountain empire crumbling, you must walk the fractured earth, crafting bridges out of living rock to hold the land together. But each bridge costs you a memory, fading with every word of power you speak. And the memory you lost before the massacre—the one that haunts the gaps in your mind—might be the very key to your forgotten self and the salvation of your people. The impossible choice: save the kingdom piece by piece, losing who you are, or hunt down the truth of your own past and risk letting it all fall.
The story begins
The rift yawned before you, a jagged wound in the mountain's flesh, spilling a cold wind that carried the screams of the city below. Dust stung your eyes as you raised your hands, the familiar ache already settling into your bones. The earth responded—reluctantly, like a beast roused from sleep—and stone began to flow, slow and molten, knitting together the broken edges.
Behind you, the Warden's voice cut through the chaos. "Faster. The eastern quarter is already lost."
You didn't turn. You couldn't. Each seam you sealed sent a pulse through your skull, and with it, something slipped away—the scent of rain on pine, gone before you could grasp it. Another fragment of yourself, fed to the mountain.
The ground shuddered. The rift deepened, hungry, and you felt the pull of something vast beneath, something that knew your name better than you did.
"Geomancer." A hand gripped your shoulder—Kaelen, his face pale, his eyes fixed on the chasm. "Stop. You're giving it too much."
But the city was still breaking, and the voice in your mind whispered a name you almost caught.
