The Leviathan's Debt

You never wanted the family legacy—but now the sea is calling in your father's debt.

You are the last of a line that bonds with a living leviathan, a colossal beast that carries your family's name and fortune across the deep. But the leviathan is dying, poisoned by a debt your father never paid. To save it—and yourself—you must sail into the maelstrom that killed him, where the truth of his betrayal waits. The sea remembers what you did not, and it demands a reckoning. A tale of survival, hidden identity, and the impossible choice between your family's legacy and your own soul.

The story begins

The salt wind tore at your oilskin hood as you scrambled down the rain-slicked cliff path, the pendant bouncing cold against your sternum. Below, the cove churned white, and there—half-swallowed by the tide—lay the leviathan's flank, a mountain of mottled grey-green flesh that shuddered with each labored breath. The stench of rot hit you before the next wave broke, thick and sweet and wrong.

"Easy," you muttered, more to yourself than the creature. You'd climbed down this cliff a hundred times as a child, but never like this. Never with the island groaning beneath your boots like a dying thing.

The leviathan's eye rolled toward you—a black pool the size of a shield, ancient and knowing. It blinked, slow, and the ground trembled.

You came, its voice rumbled in your skull, salt and stone. But you are not him.

You flinched. "My father is dead. You know that."

I know what he did. The eye slid shut. And I know what you carry that you will not speak.

The pendant felt like a brand against your skin. Behind you, the storm that had been stalking the horizon for days took another step closer, and the first drop of rain struck your cheek like a warning.

What happens next is up to you.
