The Vowbound Trail

You can't betray her without losing your soul—but following her may cost you everything.

Sworn as a guide of the Sunstone Pact, you are honor-bound to lead any bearer of its sigil through the treacherous Emberwilds—or forfeit your soul. But the sigil now rests in the hands of the woman who stole your family's fortune, and the Pact's magic forbids you from revealing your past or harming her. As you navigate volcanic badlands and ancient ruins, every step tightens the oath's grip, and the only escape is to complete the journey—and then decide what you owe her. A tale of survival, hidden identity, and impossible choices in a land where oaths are iron and betrayal burns like embers.

The story begins

The sigil burned against your palm before you even saw her face—a brand of sunfire searing through the leather glove, the oath's warning singing up your arm like a struck bell. You looked up from the ledger on your desk.

Sera Vandis stood in the doorway of your guide-hut, dust-caked boots on your threshold, her smile a blade wrapped in silk. The same smile that had charmed your father into signing away everything.

"Guide," she said, and held up her hand. The sigil there glowed with the Pact's impossible light, matching the burn now spreading across your chest. "I have a crossing to make. The Vault of Sunfire. You're oath-bound to take me."

The heat coiled tighter, ribs creaking under the invisible pressure. You'd rehearsed this moment for years—the accusation, the reckoning. But the oath stole the words before they could form, dissolving them to ash on your tongue.

"I know you," she said, softer now, almost gentle. "You think I don't remember the Vandis name on your father's ledgers. But we'll have time for that in the Emberwilds."

Outside, the first tremor shook the obsidian cliffs. The season was turning.

What happens next is up to you.
