The Scripted Horizon

You keep the light burning on an island that isn't real—now the shipwrecked sailor wants you to sail into the unknown.

You've spent years as the lighthouse keeper on a remote island, your days a quiet rhythm of lamp and sea. But when a shipwrecked sailor washes ashore with a warning, your world shatters: the island, the ocean, even your memories—all a constructed reality, a gilded cage built to keep you docile. Now the horizon beyond the breakers promises chaos and freedom, while the keeper's cottage offers the only comfort you've ever known. Do you trust the stranger and sail into the unknown, or cling to the only home you've ever had? A tale of survival, betrayal, and the impossible choice between safety and truth.

The story begins

The lamp oil had gone sour again. You knew it before you lifted the lid—that acrid, burnt-honey smell that clung to the brass fittings like a warning. You'd cleaned these mechanisms every dawn for longer than you could remember, and yet the flame still guttered, casting shadows that didn't quite match the room.

You were reaching for the rag when you heard it: a sound that didn't belong to the wind or the waves or the groan of the tower's bones. A voice, thin and raw, carried up from the rocks below.

"Please."

You froze. The word was foreign in a way that had nothing to do with language. You hadn't spoken to another person in—you couldn't count the years. The horizon had been empty for so long that you'd stopped checking it.

But now, half-drowned and bleeding on the jagged stones at the base of the cliff, a man was looking up at you. His coat was torn to ribbons. His eyes were the color of a storm.

"It's all a lie," he rasped, reaching toward you with a hand that shook. "Everything. The sky, the sea, the light. I saw it from the other side."

What happens next is up to you.
