The Glacial Ledger
You inherit a key that opens a frozen vault—and a debt that will follow you to the ends of the earth.
In the dying frontier town of Frostspire, you inherit a rusted key from a stranger—a key that unlocks a sunken dungeon carved into a collapsed glacier. But the inheritance comes with a debt, and the town's iron-gloved mayor intends to collect it from your hide. With every treasure-hunter and debt-collector in the territory hunting you, you must decipher the glacier's secrets and decide what the vault's true treasure is worth—even if it means unraveling the town's founding lie. A slow-burn survival odyssey across a frozen wasteland, where every step could be your last and the truth might cost you everything.
The story begins
The wind ripped the ledger page from your frostbitten fingers before you could stop it. You’d been holding it for less than ten seconds, a lifetime too long. The stranger who’d pressed it into your palm an hour ago now lay crumpled against the hitching post, his breath fogging the cold air in shallow, wet bursts. The key, rusted and heavy as a dead man’s sin, burned against your ribs.
“You took the wrong thing, courier,” Mayor Atka Voss said, her voice smooth as ice over a crack. She stood at the head of the street, flanked by two enforcers in wolf-fur cloaks. The whole town had turned to watch, but no one would lift a finger. Not here. Not for you.
The stranger’s hand twitched, reaching for your boot. “The vault,” he whispered, blood on his teeth. “She lies about the frost.”
Then the enforcers moved, and you had a half-second to decide whether the key stayed yours or became a corpse’s last mistake.
