The Coin of Flesh

Mature

Your blood is the map, and every step toward the vault tightens the leash around your neck.

Captured and traded like cargo, you are the key to a sunken vault no one else can find—your blood senses its location, making you the most coveted map in the wasteland. When your captor barters you to a ruthless treasure-hunt master, you play along to survive, but the deeper you descend into the earth, the more you realize the vault's guardian is watching, and it has a proposition that could set you free—or doom you forever. A deadly game of survival and dark bargains awaits, where trust is a currency and betrayal is the only constant.

The story begins

The canyon wind carried the grit of a thousand dead cities, and it stung your eyes as you stumbled over the cracked seabed. Talon’s hand was a vice on your arm, his fingers digging into the bruise the warlord had left there. He was a man built of sharp angles and sharper appetites, and his patience was a blade worn thin.

“You said it was here,” he growled, voice low against the howl of the wind.

You didn’t answer. The pull was in your blood again, a thrumming ache behind your sternum, deeper than the last time. The vault was close. You could taste it, like copper and old stone, and it made your skin prickle with a dread you couldn’t name.

Kael stood a dozen paces off, his silhouette hard against the pale sky. His eyes were on you, not the canyon walls. He’d been watching you like that for three days, and you knew it wasn’t the treasure that held his gaze.

“There,” you said, and your voice cracked. A fissure in the canyon wall, barely wide enough for a man, exhaled a breath of cold, ancient air.

Talon smiled, and it was not a kind thing. “After you, map.”

What happens next is up to you.
