The Forbidden Cartouche
MatureYou witness a murder in a tomb that guards its secrets with deadly precision.
As a freelance archaeologist hired to map a newly discovered tomb, you stumble upon your employer committing murder and framing a rival. Now you're trapped between exposing a powerful syndicate or digging deeper into a site that seems to punish those who disturb it. The tomb's ancient wards are awakening, and every choice you make could be your last. Will you risk everything for the truth, or let the sand swallow both the crime and your conscience?
The story begins
The air in the chamber was thick with the smell of dust and ancient resin, clinging to your throat as you crouched over the carved cartouche. You had been tracing the glyph for nearly an hour, your brush working carefully around the edges, when the sound of voices echoed down the corridor. You froze, your hand hovering over the stone.

Marcus's voice, low and smooth, cut through the silence. "You found it, didn't you? The true entrance." You turned, your heart hammering, to see Dr. Chen backing away from him, her face pale in the lantern light. "I wasn't going to tell anyone," she stammered, clutching a small clay tablet to her chest. "I just wanted to study it—" Marcus moved faster than you thought possible. The knife was in his hand, then in her side, and she crumpled silently into the sand. You watched, paralyzed, as he crouched beside her and carefully pressed the tablet into her dead fingers, arranging her body like a fallen thief.

He looked up, his eyes finding yours in the dark. "Ah," he said, almost gently. "You're more thorough than I expected." He rose, wiping his hand on his trousers. "Here's what happens now. You help me map this tomb, keep your mouth shut, and you walk away rich." He tilted his head. "Or you can join Dr. Chen in the sand." The silence stretched between you, broken only by the faint drip of water somewhere deeper in the earth.
