The Errant Emissary

You're a mapmaker's apprentice playing royal envoy in a sunken temple—one wrong word and the mer-queen's coral could end the world.

You're a cartographer's apprentice, mistaken for the royal envoy sent to negotiate a treasure treaty with the mer-queen of a sunken temple. The treasure is a living coral that can heal or destroy. To keep the imposture alive, you must navigate a court of forked tongues, where one slip could doom not just your life but the fragile peace between surface and sea. Dive into an adventure of survival, hidden identity, and impossible choices in a world where trust is as rare as air.

The story begins

The throne room smelled of brine and old stone, a cathedral of barnacled arches that caught the shifting glow of jellyfish lanterns. You stood at the center of a circle of mer-courtiers, their scaled tails flicking with barely concealed amusement, and you kept your hands still over the rolled charts you clutched like a shield.

Queen Thalassa regarded you from her throne of fused coral, her eyes the color of deep water, unreadable. She had not blinked once since you entered.

“Your king’s missives,” she said, voice like the pull of a tide, “speak of good faith. Yet you arrive in a storm, alone, with papers that smell of ink and salt in equal measure.” She leaned forward, webbed fingers curling over the armrest. “Tell me, envoy—what does your surface truly want from my dying sea?”

The coral behind her pulsed faintly, sickly white at the edges. A scholar in gray robes—the Coral Keeper—watched you from the shadows, his gaze sharp as a blade.

The silence stretched, and the current turned cold.

What happens next is up to you.
