The False Heir's Descent

You're an actor playing a dead princess—but the dungeon believes you're real.

You're a penniless actor, hired to impersonate the lost princess in a ritual that opens the Royal Undercroft. The court thinks she's dead, and they expect you to lead a party into the dungeon to find her throne. But as you descend, the ancient magic begins to respond to your lies, and the guardians start to believe you are the true heir. Every false claim you make becomes reality, and the throne may claim you forever—unless you can find a way to break the spell before it's too late. This adventure is a survival story about hidden identity and the price of a convincing performance.

The story begins

The vault door groaned shut behind you, sealing out the torchlight of the upper dungeon. Kael's hand shot out, catching your elbow before you could step forward into the dark. His grip was warm, calloused, and entirely too familiar for a man who'd called you a fraud not an hour ago.

"Wait," he breathed. "Hear that?"

You heard it. Stone grinding against stone somewhere ahead, a sound like a giant drawing breath. The floor trembled beneath your boots. You'd played dead queens and false kings on every stage in the capitol, but this was different. This stage was real, and the props wanted to kill you.

"The wards," you whispered, pitching your voice low and regal. "They've tasted blood. Someone's been here before us."

Kael's eyes narrowed in the gloom. "How would you know—"

The torches along the wall erupted in green flame, and the Guardian rose from the floor before you, a colossus of living rock and old bronze. Its head turned, sockets burning like twin coals, and fixed on your face.

Then it knelt.

"True heir," it intoned, voice like grinding graves. "The throne awaits."

Kael's hand fell away. The silence that followed was deafening.

What happens next is up to you.
