The Frozen Echo

A distress call from a forty-year-old expedition knows your name and warns you not to come.

You're a night-shift radio operator in a remote arctic outpost when a distress call crackles to life—from an expedition that vanished four decades ago. The voice claims to be you, begging you not to rescue them, because the frozen city they transmit from is the one being built to house your future. Your rescue will trap you there forever. Unravel the mystery of the frozen city, confront the truth of your own future, and decide whether to answer the call or let the past stay buried.

The story begins

The static hissed like a living thing, a serpent of white noise coiled in the dark of the radio room. Your fingers, numb from the cold that seeped through the insulated walls, hovered over the frequency dial. You'd been chasing the ghost for three hours—a faint, rhythmic pulse buried beneath the aurora's crackle. The station's clock read 03:47, but time had lost meaning in the endless night.

Then it broke through. Not a voice, not yet. A pattern. Three long notes, two short, three long. An SOS, but inverted, wrong, as if sent by someone who'd forgotten the code. You leaned closer, breath fogging the console's glass, and the static parted like a curtain.

"…do you hear me? I know you can. I know you're there."

The voice was yours. The same cadence, the same slight hesitation on the word hear. But older. Worn thin by decades of ice and regret.

"Don't answer. Whatever you do, don't answer. They're listening. And they're building it for you."

The transmission cut. The dial spun back to zero on its own, and the room fell silent except for the hum of the generator and the thud of your own heart.

What happens next is up to you.
