The Gilded Forge

You craft beauty in a perfect town, but the truth of your world is forged in a lie.

You are a blacksmith in a cheerful artisan town, where every day is a joy of crafting tools and sharing warmth with neighbors. But when a royal courier reveals that your entire existence is a simulated test, your world shatters. Now, a glitch threatens to delete the town, forcing you to choose between escaping to the brutal real world or fighting to save the loved ones you now know are code. Can you find the strength to protect a life you've built, even if it's not real?

The story begins

The hammer felt like an extension of your arm, a familiar weight that grounded you in the rhythm of the forge. Sweat beaded on your brow as you struck the glowing steel, each blow sending sparks dancing through the warm, dim air. Elara stood nearby, her bright eyes tracking every motion, her hands already reaching for the next piece of metal before you even asked.

"The Duke's horse threw a shoe on the cobbles by the fountain," she said, her voice brimming with that eager energy that made her feel like a daughter to you. "He'll be furious if it's not ready by sundown."

You smiled, the heat of the fire warming your chest. "The Duke can wait. Quality takes time." You plunged the steel into the quenching bucket, and steam hissed into the air like a sigh of relief.

Then the workshop door slammed open, and the light outside turned wrong—not golden, but gray, like a storm had swallowed the sun. A figure stood silhouetted in the doorway, sleek and wrong, their movements too smooth, their eyes reflecting light that wasn't there.

"Blacksmith," the Courier said, their voice flat and clinical. "The Architect has sent me. Your world is ending—and you are the only one who is real."

Elara's smile froze, her hand still reaching for a tool that suddenly flickered like a dying candle.

What happens next is up to you.
