The Last Lamplighter
You are the last keeper of the Winter Road's final lamp—and the memory-eating siren beneath the glacier holds the only fuel that can save it.
In a world swallowed by ice-tides, you tend the chain of lighthouses that holds back the frozen sea. But the last lamp is guttering, and the only source of fuel lies in a sunken shrine beneath the glacier, guarded by a siren who feasts on memories. With each step toward the shrine, you forget more of who you are—and why you volunteered for this duty. A survival story of sacrifice and identity, where the greatest treasure is the self you may lose forever.
The story begins
The wind tore at your oilskin coat as you shoved the lighthouse door open, and the blizzard bit through the wool at your throat. Behind you, the great lens flickered—a sickly, gasping orange that barely touched the ice-sculpted cliffs. The flame was drowning. You knew it before you turned, before the cold gnawed at your cheeks. The fuel gauge had read empty for three days now, and the reserves were just frozen memory.
You'd emptied the last of the oil into the lamp yourself, watched it pool thin and dark, and still the wick sputtered. The storm would swallow the road by morning. The settlements east would freeze in the dark.
Your breath fogged the glass as you looked out at the glacier—a vast, blue-white plain scored with crevasses that swallowed light and sound. And somewhere beneath it, beneath the ice and the pressure of centuries, lay the shrine. The source. The only fuel that could rekindle a lamp this old.
Your hand went to the brass key at your belt, cold as a promise. The one you didn't remember taking, from a lock you didn't remember opening.
The lamp fluttered again. Dying.
