The Mapmaker's Lie

You've reached the edge of the world you were given — and the cartographer who drew it is waiting.

For as long as you can remember, your life has been a map — every memory, every place, every face plotted by a mysterious benefactor who guided you toward a treasure at the heart of it all. Now you've finally reached the edge of that map, where the ink runs out and the parchment tears into an uncharted void. Waiting there is the cartographer who crafted your entire existence, and they're holding a compass that points to a truth you may not be ready to face. But the treasure isn't what you think it is, and the only way to claim it is to confront the question you've buried your whole life: Who are you, really? An adventure of survival, self-discovery, and impossible choice on the frontier of a fabricated world.

The story begins

The ink-black door stood alone in the meadow, a stark rectangle against the swaying grass, and your boots were already wet with dew. You'd followed the final line on the map to this exact coordinate — a place that shouldn't exist, yet here it was, humming with a wrongness you felt in your teeth. The door had no handle, no hinges, just a surface so dark it seemed to drink the morning light.

Then it opened.

The Cartographer stepped out, coat weathered, fingers stained with ink like the map you'd clutched for years. They smiled at you like you were an old friend returning home.

"Right on time," they said, voice carrying a strange warmth. "I knew you'd follow the line. You always do."

You'd never met them, yet something in your chest pulled toward them — a recognition you couldn't name. Behind them, through the doorway, you caught a glimpse of impossible things: stars that moved like fish, corridors folding into themselves.

"You've been drawing my whole life," you said, and it wasn't a question.

The Cartographer's smile widened. "Yes. And now I want to show you the treasure. But first — you have to agree to stay."

What happens next is up to you.
