The Rainmaker's Last March

You can smell water across a desert—and the warlord who owns you wants the oasis that could end the world.

In a world parched by a century-long drought, you are the last water-scented, a living legend whose gift has made you a slave to warlords and a target for assassins. When the dying tyrant Vexar forces you to guide his army toward the fabled Oasis of Veiled Dawn, you sense something terrifying beneath the sands—a reservoir so vast and so cursed that drinking from it could drown every living soul. With a ruthless general watching your every step and a rival scout who knows your darkest secret, you must decide: lead them all to salvation or doom, or find a way to save the world—and yourself—from the water's hidden truth.

The story begins

The wind carried the scent of rust and old blood as you stumbled over the ridge, the cracked earth burning through the soles of your boots. Behind you, the army’s column stretched like a scar across the wastes—thousands of men and beasts, their thirst a living thing that pressed against your skull. Your gift pulsed beneath your skin, a dull ache behind your eyes, and for a moment you thought you smelled it: water, deep and still, laced with something ancient and wrong.

Then the vision came—a flood of black water rising, swallowing the sun, and a voice that was not a voice whispering come.

You shook it off, but Kael was already watching. He stood near the supply wagons, his scarred face unreadable, and you knew he’d seen the tremor in your hands. He smiled, slow and knowing, and turned away.

General Sarn’s horse cut in front of you, dust curling around its hooves. “The warlord wants a report,” she said, her voice flat as stone. “He’s coughing blood again. He says we’re close.”

You weren’t close. You weren’t sure you ever had been.

What happens next is up to you.
