The Regent's Mirror
MatureYou wear a dead queen's face, and the court expects a miracle before the week is out.
You're a street-scarred con artist who's been mistaken for the vanished queen. The court that crowned you expects a miracle in seven days—or your head. Your only allies are the servants who know the truth, and the real queen, who stole your sister's face to escape the same trap. Can you outscheme a court of vipers, unmask the true culprit, and save your sister before the mirror shows your lie?
The story begins
The silk of the queen’s gown whispered against the marble floor as you swept down the grand corridor, your heart a frantic drum beneath the corset. Behind you, the court’s eyes were a hundred needles in your back—but you didn’t turn. You couldn’t. Not when Mara’s warning still rang in your ears, delivered in a hushed breath as she adjusted your collar: The Regent has summoned you. He knows.
You stopped before the gilded doors of the council chamber, your reflection rippling in the mirrored panels—a stranger’s face, your sister’s stolen beauty, staring back at you. Somewhere out there, she wore yours, and the thought was a knife twisting in your gut.
The doors swung open before you could knock.
“Ah, my dear niece,” the Regent’s voice oozed like honey over rot. He stood at the far end, silhouetted against the stained-glass light. “So good of you to join us. We were just discussing the miracle.”
Beside him, Ser Vael’s smile was a blade sheathed in courtesy. “The court grows impatient, Your Majesty. Seven days is so very little time to prove you are… real.”
