The Scullery Navigator

You know where the water is—and the treasure beneath it. The question is who you'll betray to reach it.

You're a pot-scrubber in a warlord's fortress, but you've secretly memorized every stolen chart nailed to the kitchen wall. When the fortress is besieged and the warlord's daughter offers freedom to anyone who can find water, you face an impossible choice: reveal your knowledge and risk being used as a pawn, or flee into the war-torn wilds alone with the map burned into your memory. As the siege tightens and old secrets surface, every ally is a potential leash, and every step toward the sunken ruin could be your last.

The story begins

The kettle clanged against the stone floor, its clatter swallowed by the deeper rumble of distant catapults. You froze, fingers still slick with grease, heart hammering against your ribs. The cook's knife paused mid-chop, her eyes—dark, knowing—fixing on you from across the kitchen.

"Boy," she said, soft as ash, "that's the third pot today. You're shaking."

You weren't shaking from fear. You were shaking from the maps. The ones you'd traced a hundred times in the scullery's dim lamplight, memorizing every contour of the fortress and the sunken ruin below it—the spring the charts swore existed, buried beneath collapsed arches and old bones. You'd never told a soul.

"Leave him," came a sharper voice, and you turned to find the warlord's daughter framed in the doorway, dust and desperation clinging to her tunic. "The wells are dry. Father's offering freedom to anyone who finds water." Her gaze swept the room, landing on you last, a flicker of something unreadable passing through it. "The ruin. You know the charts, don't you, scullery?"

The cook's knife paused again, waiting. The fortress groaned overhead.

What happens next is up to you.
